Change is Coming for SAM.gov Data Extract & API Users

On April 4, 2022, the federal government will move away from the DUNS Number and will begin using the new Unique Entity ID (SAM) as the authoritative identifier for entities.  In preparation for this transition, GSA’s Integrated Award Environment will remove the DUNS Number from SAM.gov extracts and application programming interfaces (APIs) during the first few days of April 2022.

If you use extracts or APIs in SAM.gov, there are things you should know prior to the transition on April 4.

First, be aware that SAM.gov will be offline from 8:00 PM ET Friday, April 1, 2022 until no later than 9:00 a.m. ET Monday, April 4, 2022. During the downtime, all extracts and APIs will be unavailable.

Extracts

The Entity Registration Monthly Extract is published on the first Sunday of the month at about 7:00 a.m. ET.

  • The last Monthly Extracts containing DUNS data were posted on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
  • This includes Public v1, FOUO v1, and Sensitive v2 (DUNS only).
  • This includes Public v2, FOUO v2, and Sensitive v3 (DUNS & Unique Entity ID).
  • In April 2022, only the most current Monthly Extract versions will be available.  The files will contain no DUNS data. The DUNS data fields and pipe delimiters will remain.
  • Only Public v2, FOUO v2, and Sensitive v3 (with Unique Entity ID (SAM) only) will be available.  No monthly files prior to April 2022 will be available.
  • All older versions of extracts will be deprecated.

The Entity Registration Daily Extract is an incremental file which is published five days a week (Tuesday to Saturday at about 7:00 a.m. ET) and contains all new, updated, and deactivated registrations since the previous daily file.

  •  The last Daily Extracts to contain DUNS data will be posted on Friday, April 1, 2022.
  • This includes Public v1, FOUO v1, and Sensitive v2 (DUNS only).
  • This includes Public v2, FOUO v2, and Sensitive v3 (DUNS & Unique Entity ID).
  • There will be no Saturday, April 2, 2022 Daily Extract.
  • Beginning on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, only the most current Daily Extract versions will be available. The files will contain no DUNS data. The DUNS data fields and pipe delimiters will remain.
  • Only Public v2, FOUO v2, and Sensitive v3 (with Unique Entity ID only) will be available. No Daily Extracts prior to April 5, 2022, will be available.
  • All older versions of extracts will be deprecated.

Please refer to the SAM Master Extract Mapping document, posted at open.gsa.gov/api.

APIs

Documentation and all SAM.gov API specifications are located at open.gsa.gov/api/

Entity Management API, Exclusions API, Get Opportunities API, and Opportunity Management API:

  • Last time to access v1 of these APIs, which contain the DUNS Number, is 8:00 p.m. ET April 1, 2022.
  • Beginning on Monday, April 4, 2022, only v2 of these APIs will be available. This applies to all public, FOUO, and sensitive versions. The APIs will return no DUNS data. The DUNS data fields will remain, but will return null or blank values.

If you have any questions about using data extracts or APIs, please search for answers on the Federal Service Desk site, fsd.gov. If you have technical issues, you can submit an FSD web form for assistance at any time, or you can call or chat with a live agent from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.

When submitting help desk tickets for API or system connection issues, please provide the following:

  • The exact API requests that you were trying to send
  • The exact error messages that you were receiving
  • The exact dates and times when you received the errors
  • Screenshots (with the actual API request and the error) [Attach to the ticket]
  • The System Account ID/Name that was trying to make API calls
  • Screenshots of the parameters used for API call [Attach to the ticket]
