Help Resources for UEI Transition Now Available on FSD.gov

In April 2022, the federal government will transition away from the use of the DUNS Number and toward the new Unique Entity ID as the primary means of entity identification for federal awards government-wide.  This is a big change, as the government has used the DUNS Number for many years.

On April 4, 2022, Integrated Award Environment (IAE) systems will comply with the federal government’s requirement to no longer use the DUNS Number for federal award management.  The IAE systems (SAM.gov, FPDS, eSRS, FSRS, FAPIIS, and CPARS) are already transitioning to  the new, SAM.gov-generated entity identifier. Other agencies have their own plans to meet the governmentwide transition date to use the Unique Entity ID (SAM), so listen for news from your agency, or the agencies you do business with, to learn their schedule.

If you’ve been wondering what you need to do to be ready for the transition from DUNS Number to Unique Entity ID (SAM) when it comes to the IAE systems, we’ve got you covered!

The Federal Service Desk, available at fsd.gov, is the help desk for the IAE systems. FSD.gov now has a new button on the home page that opens a list of help resources for the UEI transition. If you’re a federal employee who uses SAM.gov, a contractor or subcontractor, someone who receives grants, or someone who searches for entities on SAM.gov, this link is for you.

More about the new help resources on fsd.gov:

The resources available at fsd.gov are specific to the transition in IAE systems only.  In addition to providing information about unique entity identifiers and the general change, we’ve reviewed the Q&As from recent user forums to answer your most frequently asked questions on this topic.  Some top questions we’ve addressed include:

  • and more!

The FAQs are organized by what you do in SAM.gov to make it easier to find information that is important to you.  We’ve also created an interactive PDF to walk you through how you are affected by this change so you can be confident you have the right details.

Don’t forget you can also view our August 2021 stakeholder forum video and read the latest Interact article about this transition.

Although the formal transition from the DUNS Number to the Unique Entity ID (SAM) will occur in April 2022, preparations within the IAE systems are well underway and we look forward to sharing more information as it becomes available.

Please explore the new help page and follow Interact for more information to come this fall.
