GSA Champions Small Business

Small businesses are important to American communities and the U.S. economy. That’s why GSA is joining the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), its federal partners, and industry to celebrate National Small Business Week.

The Important Role Small Business Plays at GSA

GSA has a long history of being a champion for small business participation in the federal procurement process. In fact, GSA continues to meet and exceed agency-wide small business contracting goals. In fiscal year 2020, GSA exceeded all prime contracting small business goals awarding $2.6 billion in contracts to small businesses. GSA exceeded the agencywide subcontracting goal and awarded $8.3 billion in subcontracts to small businesses. These achievements contributed to GSA receiving an A+ on the fiscal year 2020 SBA Small Business Procurement Scorecard.

  • GSA stands out as one of only eight agencies that received an A+
  • This marks the 11th consecutive year that GSA earned an A or higher on the small business procurement scorecard.

While the COVID-19 pandemic put a heavy toll on small businesses across the country, GSA saw more of its contracting dollars go to small businesses last year.

Of the $515 million GSA spent on COVID-19 support in fiscal year 2020, more than $115 million went to small businesses. Contract dollars awarded to socioeconomic small businesses were:

  • $29 million to small disadvantaged businesses
  • $25 million to women-owned small businesses
  • $4 million to Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) small businesses, and
  • $15 million to service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.

GSA will continue in its efforts to maintain small business contracting success andprovide opportunities in its acquisitions to all small businesses.
