The Requisition Channel Market Basket contains NSNs: What is a NSN?

A National Stock Number is simply the government's official label applied to an item of supply that is repeatedly procured, stocked, stored and  issued.  The NSN is a unique 13 digit number that has been assigned by the Federal Government Cataloging System. When a NSN is assigned to an item of supply, data is assembled to describe the item. These data elements include but are not limited to: the item name, physical characteristics of the product, performance characteristics of the product; as well as, the unit of issue. These established NSNs are utilized throughout the federal supply system and are an integral part of managing the military's logistics supply chain.
