Yesterday I got a call from a very nice guy asking me some questions and trying to see if a GSA Contract would be worth pursuing for his customer. He specifically asked me how many government contracts go through the GSA, and I didn't know the exact answer, so I did some research. Comparing GSA sales numbers from the GSA Schedule Search Query (SSQ) to overall federal contract numbers from usaspending.gov, I was able to calculate the percentages of federal contracts that are GSA contracts from 2008 - 2011.
