    The AbilityOne Program, under the Javits-Wagner -O’Day Act, is a mandatory source program that provides the Federal Government with the ability to contract directly for supplies and services with Nonprofit Agencies (NPAs) that service individuals with a significant of disabilities.    The U.S. AbilityOne Commission is a federal agency responsible for ensuring the Act is implemented by using Central Nonprofit Agencies as the liaison between the government and the nonprofit agency (contractor).

    Last week GSA released a review of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Version 4 (LEED v4), the new version of the LEED green building certification system published in November 2013 by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The purpose of the review was to examine how LEED v4 aligns with existing federal statutory, regulatory, and Executive Order green building requirements.

    GSA recently issued a Request for Information (RFI) for innovative, transformational green building technologies in support of its Green Proving Ground (GPG) program.    The RFI invites technology manufacturers and industry stakeholders to submit information on promising technologies, which will be used in the selection process for technologies to test as part of GPG’s 2015 program.

    GSA’s Mentor-Protégé Program is designed to encourage and motivate GSA prime contractors to assist small businesses and enhance their capability of performing successfully on GSA contracts and subcontracts.     In October 2011, the President directed the creation of BusinessUSA, a centralized, one-stop platform to make it easier than ever for businesses to access services to help them grow and hire.   BusinessUSA implements a "no wrong door" approach for small businesses and exporters by using technology to quickly connect businesses to the services and information relevant to them, regardless of where the information is located or which agency's website, call center, or office they go to for help.

    As the GSA National Capital Region (NCR) prepares to significantly increase recycling --as well as launch a new composting program-- the City of DC is doing its part to advance waste reduction by banning the use of styrofoam fast food containers. Styrofoam is not recyclable and doesn’t biodegrade in the composting process so when it comes into GSA’s facilities, we must send it to landfills.

    The American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council, or ACT-IAC, selected Interact for the group's highest award recognizing government to industry engagement. This is only the second year for this particular award series and Interact was cited for its unique capability to blend collaboration among a wide variety of groups, including the Federal acquisition workforce, GSA's industrial partners and the general public.
