What is Category Management?

The phrase “Category Management” is popping up all over, but what does it really mean when it comes to business?

Category management is a business model and conceptual framework that changes how we think, conduct and manage acquisitions across government. It allows the federal acquisition workforce to buy smarter and faster.

Exciting things are happening within Category Management and convenience is at your fingertips for strategic sourcing contracts and other government purchasing vehicles. The Acquisition Gateway is a one-stop shop with vital information including transactional data and other expertise in a single online location, making it easily accessible to all government buyers. The Gateway is becoming the hub of an acquisition professional’s daily activities, with category hallways the home for all content housed within the Gateway. Strategic sourcing solutions and other purchasing vehicles are separated into these individual hallways where you can see and shop the various options. The hallways feature expert articles, templates, market research tools, prices paid data, and other valuable content and resources.

If you haven’t signed up already, here’s your opportunity to became part of this new community.  We encourage you to become a registered user by accessing the Acquisition Gateway through OMB Max at https://hallways.cap.gsa.gov/homepage/welcome.html.
