What is the Assistance Listings Feature on beta.SAM.gov?

The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) website is one of the first the Integrated Award Environment (IAE) is migrating to beta.SAM.gov. Today, those searching for federal assistance listings go to CFDA.gov. In the future, beta.SAM.gov will be the source for federal assistance listings. While the new Assistance Listings search feature is now available on beta.SAM.gov for users to try out, those searching for federal assistance listings should continue to use CFDA.gov to find official programs until further notice.

Beta.SAM.gov provides detailed, public descriptions of federal assistance listings in the form of projects, services, and activities. Federal assistance programs are available to a wide variety of applicants including:

  • State and local governments (including the District of Columbia)
  • Federally recognized Indian tribal governments
  • Territories (and possessions) of the United States
  • Domestic public, quasi-public, and private profit and nonprofit organizations and institutions
  • Specialized groups
  • Individuals

Each federal assistance listing is associated with a unique five-digit CFDA number.  The new search tool in beta.SAM.gov generates quicker, more efficient results.  Users can filter search results or search listings across all U.S. government agencies for a broad view of funding options.

Once a user identifies a federal assistance listing of interest, the user can link directly to grant opportunities on www.grants.gov or follow-up with the specific agency through their contact information provided in the listing.

While users can try the new search functions for federal assistance listings on beta.SAM.gov, they should still use CFDA.gov to find official government information.  As we get closer to decommissioning CFDA.gov, additional information will be announced on the CFDA.gov site and across the IAE and federal financial assistance user community.
