USAccess Idemia V8.1/V7 Card Profile Type Opt-In Deadline January 30, 2021

As announced in multiple meetings, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) mandated that all Idemia v7 PIV cards be out of circulation by June 30, 2024 (End-of-Life). To meet these requirements, USAccess Release 18.0 was completed in production on June 20, 2020. This release set the v7 card expiration date to be no later than the mandated date.

To meet NIST and OMB cut-off dates and to ensure Agencies have the approved PIV card that meets the latest security requirements, the MSO is setting a deadline of January 30, 2021 by which all Agencies should either opt-in or fully transition to v8.1 PIV cards. (This deadline has been extended from the previously announced date of January 15, 2021). All impacted Agencies that have not opted into v8.1 issuance or completely transitioned by this date, will automatically be “opted-in” to have the capability to issue either the v7 and/or v8.1 cards. The MSO will reach out to your Agency directly to provide specifics.

By opting-in to both v7 or v8.1 card types, your Agency will be able to selectively issue v8.1 cards and further test Physical Access Control Systems (PACS) and Logical Access Control Systems (LACS).
