MRO Strategic Sourcing Solution Supports AbilityOne®

The AbilityOne Program envisions a world where every person that is blind or has other significant disabilities is able to achieve their maximum employment potential.  AbilityOne serves Federal customers by providing high quality products and services that are delivered on time and at a reasonable price.  Not only do they provide the necessary tools for the government to do its job, AbilityOne also provides jobs, economic independence and, perhaps most importantly, a feeling of fulfillment for its employees.  The American taxpayer also benefits from reduced disability payments and increased tax revenues, as well.

GSA is fully committed to supporting the AbilityOne Program and plans to build this commitment into its strategic sourcing vision. Purchase of AbilityOne products is mandatory for Federal customers and contractors are strongly encouraged to become an authorized distributor of AbilityOne products.

Here are a few other facts about AbilityOne:

  • In Fiscal Year 2011, the AbilityOne Program employed over 50,000 people who are blind or have significant disabilities, 3,300 of whom are veterans.

  • AbilityOne products are mandatory items under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 8.7, Acquisition from Nonprofit Agencies Employing People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled.  Most of the products provided by AbilityOne carry the SKILCRAFT® brand name.

  • Contractors providing supplies for use by Federal Government personnel are also required to provide mandatory items available through the AbilityOne Program, according to FAR 52.208-9, Contractor Use of Mandatory Sources of Supply or Services.
