Marking One Year Anniversary of Print Management Initiative

This week, we mark the one-year anniversary of the FSSI Print Management initiative.

It was September 16, 2011 that the new FSSI Print Management service was launched. Eleven contractors were awarded BPAs, five of which are small business firms, to provide substantial reductions in the printing, copying, scanning and faxing costs many federal agencies pay.

A year ago, 15 federal agencies signed commitment letters, including the U.S. Departments of Defense, Justice, Labor, Homeland Security, Health & Human Services, Treasury, Commerce, GSA, Social Security Administration, Import-Export Bank of the United States, Federal Housing Finance Agency, Environmental Protection Agency, Veterans Affairs, Office of Personnel Management Administration and National Science Foundation.

The initial enthusiasm for this offering over the past year has been promising, with agencies issuing commitment letters representing over $240 million annually.  This represents a tremendous opportunity to achieve savings. When agencies work together and leverage their spending, they can, in fact, substantially reduce costs and improve performance.

Two agencies have officially mandated the use of FSSI Print Management: Department of Labor and Department of Health and Human Services.

How can you promote FSSI Print Management usage?

GSA developed this new strategic sourcing initiative with the recognition that changes in print behavior can save the government hundreds of millions of dollars annually. Please spread the word.

These BPAs offer agencies lower prices than other contracts currently available to the federal government and help agencies identify savings through use of more efficient devices. So, the value proposition is clear.

PrintWise facilitates the movement towards an increasingly paperless federal workforce. But the fact remains that print itself isn’t going to disappear anytime soon and we have a responsibility to decrease its costs. In fact, in its study of the federal government, Lexmark projects the annual spend of the federal government on printing and copying at $2.2 billion.

Your ability, at the grass-roots level, to reach out to acquisition personnel at committed agencies and spread the FSSI Print Management value proposition can stimulate greater adoption.
