The modernization to catalog systems will be a multiyear effort, so the Catalog Management team is also working on solutions that offer value in the shorter term. We’ve initiated work in two important areas that will impact customer satisfaction in browsing the catalog:
Product page consolidation - Utilizing the Global Shipment Identification Number (GSIN), GSA is consolidating 1,700 master products on GSA Advantage! to make it simpler for customers to make purchases and conduct market research. Grouping together identical products sold by multiple vendors on one master product page reduces catalog clutter and simplifies purchasing by enabling customers to easily review and compare different sources. This also reduces burden on vendors by utilizing existing catalog data to represent products. GSA will examine additional products to identify future GSIN consolidation opportunities to further improve the catalog.
SCRM Blocker - GSA has implemented a new process to deactivate products that are deemed a significant supply chain risk, based on the manufacturer name and/or product description. Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) has become an increasingly visible concern for federal agencies, especially around electronics and Trade Agreement Act (“TAA”) compliance, and GSA customers need assurance that the products offered through Multiple Awards Schedule (MAS) have been formally vetted. This new process will provide customers increased confidence in MAS catalog offerings and ensure customers receive the products they have requested. Additionally, it will improve fairness and compliance among the GSA vendor community.
