IT Schedule 70 Targets State & Local Governments

IT Schedule 70 Targets State & Local Governments

During a Quarterly Industry Meeting on November 1st 2012, GSA’s IT Schedule 70 Program Office announced it would be increasing their efforts to bring IT solutions to the State and Local government market.

Since November, IT Schedule 70 has assembled a dedicated marketing team to coordinate with State and Local representatives, educating them on the cost and efficiency benefits of using IT Schedule 70 for IT acquisitions.  This team has been focused on increasing the state and local government awareness of IT Schedule 70’s offerings and are providing free acquisitions training to help eliminate any purchasing roadblocks.

This hands-on coaching approach is giving State and Local authorities the confidence to use and benefit from IT Schedule 70’s discounted and pre-negotiated IT solutions.

GSA's State & Local Outreach

Since 2002, state and local governments have been able to make purchases through GSA’s Cooperative Purchasing programs.  And though information technology sales with state and local governments have increased substantially over the years, the program is still unknown to many local authorities.

IT Schedule 70’s marketing team is building strong relationships with Senior State Acquisition Officers, as well as acquisition professionals at the city, county and state level (including educational institutions).  IT Schedule 70 is providing essential information about GSA’s Cooperative Purchasing Program via resources, webinars, training, and general Q&A support.

The response has been encouraging, as many state and local officials did not realize that IT Schedule 70 was even an option for meeting their IT requirements. Some officials have long believed that it was only available to Federal agencies with bulk purchasing capabilities, but were delighted to know that even smaller, customized orders are encouraged.

State and Local outreach has been strategically divided into three tentative waves*, with priority determined by the current requirements, the locale’s IT budget, and existing relationships.  Currently, IT Schedule 70 is implementing the first wave of the outreach effort.

  • *Wave 1 (In Progress): California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington
  • *Wave 2: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia
  • *Wave 3: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Wisconsin, Wyoming

*These waves are accurate as of February 2013 but subject to change.  Contact Thomas Corcoran (thomas.corcoran@gsa.gov or 703-605-2764) for more information.
