IAE Seeks to Engage FBO.gov Users

GSA’s Integrated Award Environment Office (IAE) is continuing to engage and have thoughtful dialogue with our system users.  As we’ve been doing for some time now, we once again are seeking input on one of the 10 IAE systems; this time, we need your thoughts about Federal Business Opportunities (www.FBO.gov ).

During 2015’s fiscal year, GSA will be looking to engage FBO users in conversations about their goals and experiences interfacing with federal opportunities.   To initiate these conversations, IAE is asking FBO users to take this FBO User Survey.  Through the survey, we will be gathering potential participant lists for FBO user research.

Responses are due Friday, November 14. (Survey link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/11HNZjsL1fJ8J9ikTFDpLxv0-6b68-jmRZCcEQny5cXM/viewform).

Through surveys, focus groups and other research methods, IAE aims to develop a detailed understanding of a diverse set of user perspectives- from throughout government and industry. This understanding will be crucial to successful design and development to ensure the future of robust and transparent federal-wide competitions for all procurement opportunities and entities seeking to do business.

Navin Vembar, director of IAE’s technology development, explains that “IAE could take the current FBO and rebuild the exact same system- just shinier and better functioning- but that’s not our goal. IAE is creating a new environment with data integrated from 10 siloed systems.  So that means a vendor with interest in, let’s say, federal opportunities data can access and utilize that data in the context of their own vendor profile stored in IAE’s systems.  We know to do this right, we need to understand not only how our users behave in the current FBO.gov, but also how we can help them achieve their goals in the new integrated environment.”

FBO will be the first system to be built in the new integrated environment- which gradually -through fiscal year 2018- will incorporate 10 of GSA’s procurement and grant data systems:  CFDA, eSRS, FSRS, FAPIIS, PPIRS, CPARS, WDOL, FPDS and SAM.  For more information on the Integrated Award Environment Presidential E-Government initiative, visit www.gsa.gov/iae.

You can support IAE’s FBO rebuild initiative by answering the initial FBO User Survey and sharing it with any federal or industry contact that might use FBO.

IAE seeks to receive input from:

·         Government Acquisition - Contracting Officer, Contract Specialist, Buyer

·         Government FBO Agency Administrator, Office Administrator, Schema Writer / FBO Engineer

·         Government Agency Interface Data Administrator

·         Procurement Application System Integrator (both government and non-government)

·         Small Business Vendor, Mid/Large Business Vendor

·         Industry Data Consumer and Research Data Consumer

Half-day focus groups will be held from December, 2014 through March, 2015 with options to attend in-person in Washington, D.C. or to participate virtually.  Focus group participation may not be available to all survey respondents; IAE's Interact Industry Community (https://interact.gsa.gov/group/integrated-award-environment-iae-industry-community) will be updated with additional opportunities to offer user feedback.

Please direct any questions or comments to iaeoutreach@gsa.gov.  GSA appreciates your support and looks forward to working with you.
