GSA hosted a Matchmaking Event for Veterans

Released Date: 11/13/2018

OSBU Sets Up Small Businesses for Success

The GSA Office of Small Business Utilization (OSBU) hosted a veteran-focused event on November 8th,
to help educate Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs) and Veteran-Owned
Small Businesses (VOSBs) about subcontracting opportunities.

“It’s wonderful to have so many GSA prime contractors speak to our veteran entrepreneurs and share
direct insight as to what works and what doesn’t,” said OSBU Associate Administrator Charles Manger. “Events like today prepare Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses and Veteran-Owned
Small Businesses to pursue subcontracting opportunities and be better prepared for success.”

There were more than 100 participants along with 23 GSA prime contractors. Given the strong interest
and participation in this year’s event, OSBU anticipates similar events in the future.

Deputy Associate Administrator for the Office of Strategic Communication, Donna Garland introduced representatives from the Small Business Administration (SBA) and moderated the panel including:
Director of Policy, Planning and Liaison, Ken Dodds; Deputy Director of the All Small Mentor Protege Program, and Joint Ventures, Sandra Clifford; and the Procurement Center Representative, Tammy
Birdsong. The discussion highlighted the All Small Mentor Protégé Program, the latest updates in subcontracting, and opportunities available through Joint Ventures.

Administrator Murphy also made a brief, surprise appearance to chat with attendees.

Later in the afternoon, each registered SDVOSB & VOSB in attendance participated in the highlight
of the event -- a matchmaking session where attendees were paired with GSA prime contractors to
discuss potential subcontracting opportunities. Each matchmaking session lasted 15 minutes and
allowed large and small businesses to meet and engage in lively discussions.
