Recent talks between GSA and leaders from private industry will provide better print management offerings for the federal government

This August, contracting officials from the GSA Print Management Program Office and members of the federal print management strategic souring commodity team met with leaders from the private sector to review the upcoming additions to GSA’s print management products and services line. Twenty large and small print commodity businesses attended this day-long discussion to ask questions and provide input about a draft statement of work. The feedback from these attending members of industry will help GSA better refine the technical requirements of its new solicitation, resulting in better bid submissions and, in turn, better solutions for the government.

The agency will soon formally advertise a request for qualifications, covering this second phase of print management, which will help agencies move a step farther in the print management process. The new contracts, housed under GSA Schedule 36: Office Imaging and Document Solutions, will allow agencies to select a single vendor to manage their existing fleet of imaging equipment, manufactured by multiple, assorted vendors. The agreements will cover the maintenance, consumables and usage reporting for an agency’s fleet.

GSA projects to award contract-holder agreements for this second phase of print management in mid-November 2012. GSA’s strategic sourcing print management initiative has been established to leverage the buying power of the federal government, streamline acquisitions, and improve operational efficiency. Making these print management services available to federal agencies will increase insight about the true lifecycle costs for imaging equipment and will reduce costs associated with printing. For more information about the Federal Strategic Sourcing Initiative for Print Management, contact GSA at 1-(855) 714-1225 or print.management@gsa.gov.
